23:09:27 Italy PM Monti Backs Use Of Project Bonds-Paper

MILAN (Dow Jones)–Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti believes that euro-zone countries must work together and implement general changes quickly in order to lower interest rates to levels that are more in line with the real economy and help countries continue in their programs to consolidate public finances.

In an exclusive interview published Sunday with financial daily Il Sole 24 Ore Monti, once again, urged European Union member states to develop a common growth policy also in a move to defend the euro.

Monti said he will continue also to work on measures to sustain future growth. The Italian Prime Minister reiterated that it is important to strengthen the single market act, adding that Europe “needs a plan to build wide infrastructures across the region, with important transportation and communication networks.” When asked how to finance them, Monti suggested the use of project bonds issued to finance infrastructure projects.
